Lodging in VA

Our "camp sites" couldn't have been more varried these first few days! Our first night was at the beautiful Newport News city park- more like a state park, with 5,000 acres of woods and water. The next night we camped at Willis UM Church whose ministry is to cyclists- offering restrooms; kitchen, & shelter in their teen hut. The next night was at a singularly unpleasant RV park uggh!
But we made up for it with a bit of heaven! Tonight we spent the evening being treated to warm showers, a great dinner, & playing Mozart Quintets with our friends Bev & Ray... Welcome to Charlottesville! Good thing, because we tackle the mountains in the disance on Tuesday.

Virginia Roads

Well, we travelled past Blue Cat Rd, Totopotomoy Rd., Slash Rd, Pottiestown Rd, Three Chopt Rd, & why not- Ordinary Rd! All that through Gouchland & Fluvanna Counties. Luckily, we only saw the sign going to Cuckoo...decided against going there.

More along Bike Route 76

Just a couple shots along the way- the good the bad & Lake Anna right side up (I hope).

Beautiful central Virginia

The weather continues to be beautiful. Saturday was warm with stiff winds & blowing grit, but overall a great day. Sunday & today have been much cooler & just breezy. Frost last night arrrg.
The scenery has been beautiful farmlands & Lake Anna near Richmond.

Great start!

What a gorgeous day & a wonderful start. Yorktown to Glendale, VA was about 60 rolling to flat miles with beautiful scenery & perfect temps.
Special thanks to- Mark for letting me go on this wild adventure, )am & Keith for the ride down, and all of the pray-ers out there!
Best bird- a bald eagle.

Pre trip training scenes

As you can see, training conditions improved a lot! Sights along the ride to Mt.Gretna included the pig roaster?, a hand carved archway, a commo boat, and a newborn calf...still wet.

Well, we survived February's snows. No bike riding, but lots of shoveling. I like to call it cross-training. March & April have been wonderful for biking & I'm trying to fit in as many miles as possible while adding my load of camping gear, food, tools, & clothing little by little.
Less than 2 weeks to our departure from Yorktown VA!!!

Biking in PA is great training since it's up hill to so many places, including home. I wonder if I'll see anything more beautiful than these PA hills & farmlands; or anything more amazing than the 75 year old Mennonite woman washing her car & the 40-something man hanging out his laundry!
We'll see..& keep you posted.
